Yeah, that Yak-1M (the Yak-3, but really it's a Yak-1M codenamed "Yak-3") sure does give you a run for your money doesn't it. Sure it may seem like cheating, but it's not. It's just that good of a plane.

The problem with cockpit-only mode is the radar is still there. It can get comical with 2 players circling around looking for each other, except one is at 3000m and the other at ground level.
For a more realistic simulation, try cockpit only and no map! Make sure there's plenty of time though. I've never tried no-map but I've stopped using the map in training. Much better for spotting bogeys. |

cockpit view, no map/hud ( except at the very beginning like the tower giving you initial contact info ), limited fuel, and ammo.....

too bad there isnt ( well maybe there is...i have yet to play online ) for people to act in the role of ground support. they are non combatants and as such ( and only they ) can see the altitude and course of inbound boogies. they call it out to their forces in the air to get them into the battle ( Greenhouse flight we have unknown number of incoming boogies in your sector @ 3000ft bearing course 270 ). the forces in the air could get to the general area but then would have to rely on visually picking the boogies first and maybe getting the jump on them. you would have to keep your head on a swivel and likewise might be able jump someone with complete suprise. dont know if this is feasable or not....or something people would be interested in. might give a new flavor to the game....
