But then I've clipped someone's wing at about 5m altitude and they've gone straight into the deck and it registered as a crash.

It's a bit strange yes. In a dogfight - Infinite you remember that game with cloudy sky, no one scored points lol
- I shot down a p51 (the guy later said I made his wing black) but again was a crash, not a kill.
