I have "Heroes of the Pacific" for the PS2 and it's a pretty fun game even though it was VERY arcadey. Even had a cockpit view... so I'm not sure what went wrong with this sequel?? I heard the developer ran into some money problems, so I'm sure that was part of it...

I unfortunately got this yesterday.
Good points,
1. The artwork is top notch, menus and cutscenes- the graphic artists did an excellent job here.
2. The graphics are very good, the ground detail seems slightly better than il-2 although the color palate me be less realistic.

Unfortunately,
1. The 3rd person view is nauseating, the point of view shifts around behind the aircraft and the crosshair moves slightly around the screen.
2. No Radar.
3. No free look. You get a button for rear view or you can hit select button and pan around while flying in a straight line.

Thats about all I could find , I only flew 2 missons the stopped playing when I
was required to shoot mines out of the path of friendly vessels.

Apparently the upper management decided to ship an unfinished game.

Rival is not even a fair assessment; I am a fan of the original Heroes of the Pacific, and this sequel is a completely stripped down, bare bones experience compared to the original.

IL-2 is a much more satisfying an experience.
Mind you, I have been looking forward to Heroes for a couple years now. When I saw the previews for IL-2, I was psyched to know that I would be getting 2 awesome flight games for the 360.

Only problem is, one game lived up to my expectations.....and it isn't Heroes.

I give IL-2 a 9.5/10
Hoe = 6.7/10

If you can't resist, just rent HOE. I am sad to say it, but the truth is the truth.

That's too bad. I thought HoE would be better than that.

Thanks for the heads up.

Don't forget if you're on the PS3 that every game is region free (although if the servers are region-specific that can be an issue, but it ain't for IL-2 .

Hardly surprising to find another flying game being dismissed on a fanboy forum like this one lol.

I took IL2 out on rental and passed.

I took HoE out on rental and I'm buying it.

Sturmovik is the better simulator but HoE is by far the better game. There is a difference. The vast majority of gamers out there are a million miles away from the people who form the main membership of this forum. They haven't somehow convinced themselves that they've flown WWII fighters for real and really don't give a rat's ass whether they can use a joystick or not. What they want is a game that has no pretensions and delivers a fast and fun gaming experience in both single and multi player. Sturmovik could have delivered this AND its niche market simulation offerings. It didn't, it won't, and that's why it's a dead game online already except for a small handful of aviation bores and boosters.

Sturmovik makes too many mistakes and has way too many obvious omissions to ever be more than a very minor cult hit among the aircraft nerd community.

Mock HoE as you like, I bet we see a sequel for it though. That's not a guarantee for a failure like Sturmovik.

ROFL's. Nice way to attack the entire community like a true troll. Dont let the forums door hit your arse on the way out. Enjoy your half baked, cheap skate immitation game. All those reviewers out there who said IL2 was better by miles must have all been bribed by those Russian Oligarks at 1C LMAO.
