Can anyone help me to run Il2??

If there was any game that I would build a system for, it would be IL-2 or for BOB SOW.

All my other games are collecting dust. Warcraft series, starcraft, Lucas arts sims / jedi games, Half life 2 series, lord of the rings online . . . etc . . .

Its probably just me, but IL-2 is just gratifying. It's rekindled a love of planes / warbirds (I had as a kid). Its one of the few games I can play for a few hours and put down. It doesn't have the mindless addiction that World of Warcrack / Morrowind / Guildwars etc . . . had. It fires my imagination and with 5 senses in my mind, feel the throbbing of the engine, the smell of high octane, the glint of the sun across the canopy and sight.


Maybe it is the difficulty of it? Perhaps, but 8 years running strong . . .

I was planning to build a PC for starcraft 2, but instead IL-2 and BOB SOW has replaced it . . . I haven't even visited the starcraft 2 forums / site since the 2 months I have had IL-2.

I'm even looking at skins and editing pilots, only game that interested me enough as max payne series (they had a nice mod community).


this is just informational . . . since the OP has decided to not try it anymore, but for others who may have older pc's trying to get it working.

Try the drivers that came with your video card CD.


Also on older machines (below 3.0 ghz and 1 gig ram) , service pack 3 and update after that really make your pc crawl. So if you were using Il2 pre service pack 3, that can / may have something to do with it.

I brought out a old AMD 800 mhz with 256 m ram, and it had service pack 2. It ran relatively fast. Internet was fine, I could multitask using MS Office 2000, use outlook and word . . . and it ran games for its specs. Forums such as these and the zoo worked good.

After login it was 2 minutes (hour glass to mouse pointer) and everything loaded up.

Updated to service pack 3 and after, and it takes 8 minutes sitting at the desktop after login (hourglass). The games run really slow. Word takes a good 3 minutes to open. Outlook, fugattaboutit. The forums take 2 minutes or more to load.

WIped it and installed service pack 2, its back to its old speedy self.


I would not recommend rolling back service packs if this is your main PC and you go on the internet and do transactions such as amazon or online banking. All the PC speed in the world isn't going to help you if your info leaks, you get a trojan, a virus forces you to lose data etc . ..

But my 800 isn't going online (much) and I could careless, if catches something nasty, I got a program that if you power reset the PC it goes back to original settings.
