almost exclusively 1946 for me, variety of planes and smooth reliable performance online are the clinchers.

Sure, the youth requires you to have youthful hardware, old guys need not apply - they just can't cut it. So for the old guys stick to 46.

...
Hardware isn't even the issue.
The issue is that the younger girl looks really, REALLY good from a distance.
Then you get up close and see that she has a club foot, a glass eye, summerteeth (some 'er here and some 'er there), is missing a few fingers from a tragic mill accident and is 6 months pregnant.

makes the older model look much better.

Now that you got really wrong!

When you come close you see a bad case of acne, really weird glasses, piercings, ugly clothes and a colorful punk hairstyle.

But then, that is all temporary and mended soon, and in a few months her even better looking sister is coming to live together with her... and you, if you are man enough and stop yammering

'fraid were going to have to agree to disagree.
She looks like a paraplegic to me.
Not interested!

* I have both installed but while waiting for the patch I only play IL2
* I have both installed but play none as CloD has made 1946 feel so old and the online CTD bug makes playing CloD impossible so I hang out here wasting time in this forum looking for the Grail patch...

Default We were in love for many years!

Uninstalled

My new sim is just so much better in the air

If I still had my nvidia 7900gs or worse yet the card I started il2 with the 4600ti(the card that il2 killed lol) I might not be so giddy though.

Mmm, those where the days... Amazingly enough I remember the GPU I first played IL2 on and it was an Nvidia Geforce 2 Ultra... Bleeding edge by then so I had none of the bad performance that many whined about then... Full circle then as a GTX580 is needed to enjoy CloD today

EDIT: Looking back in my rig-list I realize I did not remember it correctly as I swapped my Geforce 2 Ultra for a Geforce 3 in may 2001...

Option 3. Still have il2 installed, but fly only CoD now. Can't go back.

I bought Clod back in November. 6 hours played.

You can probably multiply that number by 10 when it comes down to 1946.

Especially since I installed HSFX 5.0, whoa, I (almost) rediscovered it.

Clod has potential. Sure. But that's it, only potential.

1946 + Mods is still, by far, the best. Of course, on some points Clod is better. But those points don't weight a lot compared to the overall superiority of IL-2 46.

All of my "flying" friends (and there's a lot of them) have been playing 1946 and / or RoF since they bought Clod. Technical flaws put aside, there's simply a huge gap of content between the two games (not totally blaming Clod, IL-2 1946 has been there for much more time, obviously).
