It's doable but complicated to do it on Steam. I also play Team Fortress 2 (that cartoon shooter, awesome laughs all around) and the way TF2 betas through Steam work is that you need to install a completely separate version of the game.

It's simpler and takes up less disk space to do it like we currently do. Unrar into game folder, try the patch, if you don't like it tell Steam to "verify integrity of local cache" and it will revert to the previous, non-beta version

I never said they can't distribute them via steam because they're beta patches. I said they don't.

I know of several people who refuse to fly COD until the patches become official, and get distributed through Steam. they had too many bad experiences, and even though these patches are finally close to being worthy of being offical release patches, those people really want to fly, but want them officially relased.. and hope that the gods who are in charge thake this in consideration... and make them official... after all these years, the next patch shold be made official and put on Steam...

IMHO

all those who concur, please speak up...

I don't know what the mechanics of it are or if it is too time consuming or expensive to release a patch via Steam. It makes sense to me to do it though.

.copying over a 'parts' folder into your game directory will not muck up your installation...its as easy as 'check file intergrity' via steam options to get it back to where you have it now...all personal settings will remain the same
