I can't vote because it depends on what the deathmatch is.

If it's a 1 on 1 battle for kills, la5. 1 on 1 for least deaths, la5 or la7. I shoot spitfires I don't fly them.

If it's a free-for-all dogfight (something that as far as I know has never happened in the history of air combat) the winner is either whoever has the wickedest guns on their plane, or whoever can sneak to the back of the centipede of death. That's why the g6 and spitfires are so popular. The only alternative is to bnz, and the only plane capable of bnz-ing and scoring kills quickly is the k4. I've also noticed tagemandbagem using yak-3 in free-for-all, and I figured out why when I used it. It's such a small plane that half the time nobody notices it, and they'll fly right past you to attack whoever you're shooting at.
