Poll: 109 G6/K4, LA5/7, SpitIX, Hurricaine
 

I am in sim at the moment, but started in arcade for 2 months and I feel this poll reflects both. If you are in a death match, which fighter are you going to pick? (Forget I153/16) Pilots seem to be on a 109G-6 and K-4 roll at the moment. Just a couple weeks ago it was LA-5 and Spit IX. The Hurricaine is more affective in Arcade. My short pros and kons:

La5/7: Pros-Fast and manuverable. The most stable of the bunch. Good roll rate. Can outturn the bunch. Excellent in skid turns. Good lander. Cons: Worst guns of the bunch. You have to be an excellent shot to maximize kills. Low ammo count. LA7 worst of the bunch. Poor camo in summer maps. Very easy to see. Damage reduces manuverability severely, enabling the rest to turn with you.

109K4/G6: Pros-best guns in game. Less than a 1 second burst can destroy the others. Enables poor marksmen to get more kills than they probably deserve. Enables good marksmen to kill quickly. K4 is fastest piston engined in the game. Can't catch it when it's up to speed. Tough. Can take a good amount of punishment. Camo works well in cities and summer maps. Can't see it among the trees. Not the best turner with the G6 being the much better of the two. Cons-recoil of guns shakes the plane all over the place. Have to shoot in short bursts, telling the enemy you're there. Not the best turner. All the others can turn inside of it. Not real good in a skid turn. Has a tendancy to stall when applying too much rudder. A duck at low speed due to its weight. Don't try to land! G6 less stable than the K4. K4 probably the worst turner of the bunch.

Spit IX: Pros-An excellent turner, particularly at medium to low speeds. Good guns with good range. Close in, they will blow wings off. Better than the 109 in a skid turn but watch the rudder or it can stall. Excellent camo in cities, forests, and summer maps. Almost impossible to see looking down on it. OK roller, but not the best. Good acceleration and power! Can initially pull away from an enemy or haul it around in skid. Climbs well. Cons-loses manuverability quickly when hit. Big wings make a big target. Slower than LAs and 109K4. Is a bit unstable with too much rudder input. Not real good visibility. Be careful landing!

Hurricaine: Pros-An excellent turner in capable hands. Can stay with any of them with practise. Excellent camo as with the Spit. 12 guns dish it out medium to close range. The most stable gun platform of the bunch. Between lots of ammo and stablility, can really hose down an opponent. Lots of tracer. Very tough. Can take a beating and still perform. Up there with the 109 in damage. Can skid turn very good. Good lander. Cons-the slowest of the bunch. Not the best power. Not the best roller. Can stall with too much rudder. Its forte is medium to slow speed combat. Don't see too many in sim.

So, choose your poison. Feel free to discuss any of my points, or add your own.

I would have said Yak-1b or Yak-3, but I chose the La-5FN instead.

Also for a Pro- for the La's, I've found that even if both my wings, or one of my wings is severely damages, I may not be able to fight as well, but I still have better control of the plane, than say the Spits or Hurricanes.

though i must say it varies in all honesty depending on what other planes i see in a lobby. If i see lots of LA5/7's then i wont take the hurricane. If i see mostly spits and 109's then the hurricane i will take

I can't vote because it depends on what the deathmatch is.

If it's a 1 on 1 battle for kills, la5. 1 on 1 for least deaths, la5 or la7. I shoot spitfires I don't fly them.

If it's a free-for-all dogfight (something that as far as I know has never happened in the history of air combat) the winner is either whoever has the wickedest guns on their plane, or whoever can sneak to the back of the centipede of death. That's why the g6 and spitfires are so popular. The only alternative is to bnz, and the only plane capable of bnz-ing and scoring kills quickly is the k4. I've also noticed tagemandbagem using yak-3 in free-for-all, and I figured out why when I used it. It's such a small plane that half the time nobody notices it, and they'll fly right past you to attack whoever you're shooting at.

Not that I've been playing BoP much recently, but when I do play it I fly the K4 and G2 models of the Bf109, and also the Spitfire IX. Never, ever get killed in the K4, the only thing that can catch it apart from the jets is another K4 that is higher and faster, and I take good care to avoid that situation. Fantastic firepower, though given the option I would fly without the 2x20mm gunpods, and top of the class speed, acceleration and climb.

The G2 is a rare plane to see, but I like flying it because it is quick and also a capable dogfighter. Weak armament, but very easy to shoot accurately, and I can often get kills against fighters with just the 2 MGs if limited ammo is on and I run out of cannon ammo, so I won't complain about that.

The Spitfire IX is the most popular fighter used online, but that isn't a bad thing, it is a good all-rounder and a plane that can be flown with a reasonable amount of success by a beginner and yet in the hands of a skilled pilot it is one of the best dogfighters in the game, which means you never know what you are up against when you see one of these.

I agree that your choice may be dependant on the competition. BUT, everybody has a favorite mount, one that they do well with on a consistent basis. Mine is the LA5 or 7 so I chose the 5. My best game ever has been in a G-6, but if I don't want to die in a DEATH match against the best, it has to be a LA or K4 to have a hope of survival and MAYBE get a kill or 2. That's just me though. It sounds to me Kozzm0, you lean towards the LAs. Come on buddy, you can do it! Just push that button! It's easy. Do you really believe a Yak should be on this list? Just because of Mcgirvin? With his skill, he could kill us all in a 190! Come on now, push that LA button! You know its the right one!!

By the way, the results of my poll just might result in a deathmatch. Very short list of rules. Nothing big except for the losers. Just a 2 hour or so event to see who will put their balls in a DEATH match. I'll figure the heats after the poll after I determine who I can get in it.

DEATH meaning DEATH! No PS3 for a week. Period. No exceptions. Can't even turn it on. Uhhhh, maybe a week is too exreme, we'll see.

We will have something like a British winner, a German winner, and a Russian winner. Planes I mean. They will be in the deathmatch. Or all six planes piloted by the top scoring aces in the heats, if of course they will put their balls on the line.

On arcade or sim? No ps3 for a week? May as well top myself
