Same for me. I tried and tried and tried on realistic, as I'd done everything up to this point on realistic, but I just couldn't do it. The planes take so much more of a beating and I think you need to one hit kill them all.

What makes it extra annoying to keep re-starting is the really long flight at the start to the first target.

As soon as the mission starts, order your entire flight to get on with the mission (down on the d-pad, then right). They will all target the only objective on the radar. You can then head slightly to the left and another target will appear. Then go from there...

Also, when you bring up the map, you can choose which of your flight you want to control on the right of the map screen. This effectively lets you "teleport" around the map (assuming your flight aren't in formation). I'm not sure what happens to your plane when you do this though - I think the AI resumes control.
