How's the optimizing coming along?

Per the title, (and I apologize I haven't been keeping up) but how is the optimizing of the sim's code coming along? Are quad cores being efficiently utilized now? System memory? Vram? Are stutters cured. I need to buy a new processor, probably the 2500K. I read here some time ago that the sim likes VRAM. Is 1.256gb of ram adequate, or low? Any performance gains from overclocking beyond 3.3ghz on a processor?
