Vanilla for me.
I just play unmodded and always have. There are too many views of what is 'right' when it comes to visuals and everything else. I saw some modded smoke-trails once that were horrendous, and people were getting very exited about them. I only play offline. Probably partly because of the fact that the online community is split. I play Il2 most days at the moment. It's still my first choice.

109 you open your oil rad 50%, normal rad 60 ish, and off you go you can then forget about it. 109 is only vaguely interesting to fly if you fly a E1 or E3 so you at least have to play with prop pitch. Red planes rad 50, prop back to about 80%, and control your water temp from then on in with boost. Which is exactly what i do in 4.11 anyway The CEM is no more difficult in CLOD than 4.11 and 4.11 mod packs imo, only difference is you get a bit of text telling you you've damaged so and so rather than no message, yawn........ + in il2 you don't have disappearing contacts and have proper aa, so you don't feel you playing a game from the 90's. truthfully, the only thing i prefer about CLOD is the cockpits and the sky/horizon, otherwise, its very disappointing, especially the CEM, which no more follows plane handbooks than il2. tis nice for screenshots though. Interesting, or accurate, or even both?
Besides, i'm a fighter jock at heart, prefer to escort you masochists in bombers, (actually prefer free hunts way way up, as far away from flack as possible......). I did in fairness miss out one other thing that i prefer in CLOD to il2, and thats the feeling of weight and inertia in the fm's. That i like a lot indeed. |

Fly to London in a Heinkel on weather reconaissance, turn an engine off to simulate failure/damage, fly home fighting it all the way.
Works for me, and feels more real than il2 '46 (to me anyway) I suppose it depends what you are looking for. I flew il2 '46 a LOT more than I have flown CoD. Not flown it for quite a while though, for some reason I went off it when TD got involved. HSFX looks interesting though. |

I'm flying 46 more than C.o.D. at the moment, that is the HSFX6 version and or DBW. HSFX is being kept up to date where the other isn't, plus there is an auto up dater with HSFX. For those that haven't tried HSFX give it a try there aren't any easy kills anymore.
