I also thought the individual servers would have their own steam groups for communication, announcements, posting events, map rotations, etc...

A chat lobby in game and better integration with steam servers (like l4d2) could have turned out completely differently... then folks who are not into the forums would find the CloD related groups (squads) and servers on steam and we'd all be more of a community....

Indeed, However no such Coop on par with the old game exists. I think you have something we the steam groups. My unit has a steam group and placing events in the Schedule is useful for reminding people its time for training, etc. The "Schedule event" feature of "Groups" is often over looked.

I got really annoyed with HL in 1946 with the game mods because it only recognises one installation and the clunky interface is so outdated its very difficult to change the directory of the installation and do other things aswell! HL brought us lots of things in MP, they only other option was X-fire which was painful. As for the Chat feature - both Warbirds of Prey and ATAG have a community Team speak which you are free to use! Why type when you can Speak? - its ten tis quicker and more personnel. Also the chat was a bit... - Useless unless you where a regular. There was a degree of regular chat and those members ignored the others. Occasionally you could get help there but mostly it was drowned out by the regulars who didnt care.

This of Course is my experience.

Also right now there is so much to do for those running servers. Steam kicking servers, building missions, Scripting, Stats, Clod issues etc etc plus the running of your own unit! Altering the server to suit HL which only shows a fraction of the small amount of servers in an already complicated system (which is like stacking cards) is just out of the question.

I'd like to thank HL for what it gave us in the past but without a serious face lift of the GUI and as least hassle as possible to those running the servers I can't see it standing up to the errosion of time! What would be great is if it autodetected steam servers and added them there so those that wanted to use HL could have a greater range of servers. However I do not even know if this is possible? Perhaps with a copy of the game telling HL what was there in Steam everyone could be satisfied.

Wow thats a good thought! Servers to have steam Groups! Warbirds of Prey and ATAG - where are your steam groups?

Me too. They still might, who knows? So many squads aren't making the change over because of the shoddy state of the game. If/when more squads come and if some better features make it into the multiplayer GUI then there might be one.

Instead we are pining for HL (which is great!!!) but it seems like we really just need better mp lobbies in-game that accomodate coop style gameplay and pre-mission chat (and maybe better integration with between the servers and steam itself).
Never played l4d2 but it sounds like a decent system. Maybe even just a button in the multiplayer gui that launches the steam community overlay with the server's steam group.

Just checked out the ATAG and jg27 group links and it sayd no messages and no planned events. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Id definitely like to find a group of guys to fly with (especially in an even with an actual goal, regardless of the style).

Any help in that regard is appreciated.

Thanks for the links!!! I have joined all the groups now.

Now we just need (a bit better) steam group support in-game.

I noticed direct connect links on some of the CloD themed Steam group pages, nice work!

ATAG1 Direct Connect
ATAG2 Direct Connect
5./JG27 Direct Connect

Will this be the final nail for HL for Clod users?
