I fear (!) you are right. Just now, with latest announcements and exploding threads, these discussions between whiners and fanboys once again provide the excitement that CLOD is not able to give at this very point.

Remember it is "Battle of Britain" Day today (September 15th) - and the great circus is re-opened with the "development update" news from yesterday

Actually the direction cliffs of dover took, after about three four months after release, pretty much cured my need for flight sims. The ugly grey mess, cliffs of dover became, made it possible.
They'll have to work hard for my money next time and I'll only get it after others try It.....
..........Unless, of course, they bring back the gorgeous sunsets and lighting, or bring flyable IAR-80/81 with the battle of Stalingrad addon.

Beautiful but heavy and complicated.

Sorry, but there was a lot of problems with old il2 especially until dual core CPUs arrived.
It was playable on mx480 but on low resolution and on low to medium settings.I wasn't flyin online with that card but I remember problems that my friends had online.

When the new water came I bought midrange 6600 OC'ed it on 6600GT clocks
and with very fast Athlon @2.1 GHz(for that time) and offline everything was fine.
But online, 50-60 pilots on the server, lot of flak FPS dropped to 15 and that was 4-5 years after the sim was released and @1068 resolution.
Then dual core CPUs and new GFX cards arrived and everything was fine.

For CloD I upgraded PC, i5 and midrange 560 ti and after few first patches didnt have any problems with the new sim, even in 1.05 I had very rare CTDs.

I agree to some extent, as I helped beta test the original version, it was very system demanding, but it ran very well on my highly optimized system. There were a few bugs, but no show stoppers, with a constant stream of patches that included new content aswell as bug fixes. When they added new theaters, new features, bug fixes were included with the new maps, missions, and aircraft. Hopefully the development will stay the course with this business model. Although I doubt we will see as much free content, as we did in those days.

My son got me hooked into this sim and there possibly isn't a day that goes by that I don't question my mentality.
I started off with a 2g cpu, Agp graphics card(possibly 250mb v/ram?) and 1gb mem. Then up graded to 2.4g dual core cpu about the middle of the series and a 6600gt card, also m/b change.
Then along comes C.o.D., up goes the ante.
First 9600gt card (1gb v/ram) another 4gb ram (now 6gb total) oh god what happens then, the poor old p/s starts coughing and dies.
Decisions,decisions what to do.
Well i finally bit the bullit and decided on a complete re-build. Which way do I go? I finally decided on an Sli system to give me some options and don't regret it at all. I have had this running now for about 12 months and after a lot of experimenting with settings have good results with C.o.D.

The old system I repaired and past on to my other son's family and they are still using it.

Thank goodness the old series is still going strong because it will act as a feeder to this series as it progresses. I still go back to the old series and probably will continue to do so because there is continuing expansion there, some very good (new planes, effects and maps) and with software like "Mission Mate" and others it is very easy and quick to build missions with a huge choice of aircraft.

Oleg maybe long gone but his legacy lives on.

The king is dead, long live the new king

S!

I can say the CloD (collectors edition) dog has barked the 50 euros it cost me many times over for me. Will happily pay for the sequel to get to the Eastern Front.
