Apparently Steam is just a CoD retailer. If one wants to use Steam for online play then I would imagine one would need a Steam Account, but since Steam isn't responsible for the DRM of CoD then an account wouldn't be needed otherwise. Updates/add-ons may also be available through Steam for those who have such an account, otherwise it's the old update/add-on method we're
all accustomed to. |

so I presume Hyperlobby will still be ok for online play when servers become available (with no exclusive need for Steam for online play)

This just gets weirder all the time.
Now do I need to cancel my boxed preorder and get it digitally to get it integrated into steam? ![]() Edit: Then again its worded that "you don't need to download anything" witch is normal since the steam games have steam installation files on the disc Will just have to wait and see. If a game uses Steamworks, it makes the full use of the features of the services Steam offers. The game gets registered to your Steam account, it's therefore added to your games list, you can fully download it if you should lose your CD / DVD and you can use the Steam overlay ingame. And since Steam works as a DRM itself as well, every Steamworks game is making use of it. So yeah, quite confusing. Looks like the people in charge are confused as well, afterall. |

I don't see it as confusing, it most likely will work exactly the way Arma2/Arma2OA works on steam now. Or HOI3.
