I used to make Airfix 1/72nd scale models of all the WW2 a/c (gawd I am old!) as a kid. I would paint them and hang them from my ceiling as if they were in combat. I used to imagine flying them and what it was like to be a pilot. If someone told me back then that one day I would be able to buy a small box and it would enable me to sit in front of a thin flat screen and fly all of those ac I would have considered it science fiction. I remember the first Transistor radio and thought that was bloody amazing! I love my WW2 flight sims both on PC and XBox. Not really interested in anything else, including modern day fighters - just my WW2 Sims - a boyhood dream come true for me!
I doubt that there will ever be another conflict in which so many aviators give their lives - WW2 was a unique period in Military Aviation History.
