yes, Foz. My specialty are Tanks indeed. I like to Become a Gunner on a Leo2 in the German Heer (German tank army) next year.
I came to this forum due to the game. i really like it and i wanted to know people who do too.

About the German, err, Sherman

The Official Document, Written in 1943 During the Heat of Battle of Africa, German Soldiers or the DAK ( Deutsche Afrika Korps) captured a number of freshly arrived American Made Shermans who were send to the Englsh under the Lend Lease Act And The Germans field Tested the Sherman and gatherd information on how to stop it and what armor thickness it had and stuff like that. Suprissingly; The Germans were really inpressed on how fast the Sherman was and how reliable the Engine was. ( GVAAV8 )

It was Fast and they tested it out and came to to the conclusion that Sherman's were allowed to be captured and used as an armored vehicle but not a Tank it self. Most Shermans were converted into Recovery vehicle's and Bulldozers. Reson for that was the lack of Armor and tiny Main Gun.

The only exception for the Sherman was the Brittish Firefly. But that was shot and destroyed inmediatly when sighted. ( that can knock out a Panther/Tiger/ and even King Tiger) that was also the reason why so few Firefly's survied Normandy due to German Armor, Anti Tank Guns and the Fact that they're were only 400 made?

a bigger gun doesn't mean a better tank.

The Germans called the Shermans ''TommieCooker'' and ''Ronson'' after the famous lighter brand Beacuse they allway's light' the First time

A tank specialist? That's interesting, I think I'll check out the link. I always like coming to forums where people know a lot about something, you learn so much. Like I'm sure none of us have to worry about a lack of Soviet plane facts anymore either.

The Luftwaffe had a few ex-Belgian Airforce Buffaloes in use as fighter trainers. One was photographed on a German airfield in 1945. It is online.

A few were recovered after the invasion of Crete, though they were all un-airworthy, as was the whole squadron during the invasion, due to engine oil retention problems, an infamous Buffalo problem.

I have pictures of captured Zeroes in US Navy markings.

The Japanese captured enough Dutch Buffaloes to equip two army squadrons, who were desperate to have something better than the obstelete A5M "Claude" and Ki-27 "Nate" fixed undercarriage mono-planes. There are numerous photos on line and propoganda film footage.

The Soviet Hurricane is actually an RAF fighter from 247 wing operating from Murmansk, northen Russia. After a friendly AA fire incident, the RAF adopted Soviet markings.

World's fastest tank.... Soviet BT-5 @ 69 MPH.

World's heaviest tank.... German Maus Tank @ 183 Tonnes (Only 7 built with one in a museum in Russia.)

Most turrets on a tank.... 5 on the Soviet T-35 "Landbattleship" of which only 63 were built and around 40 ended up captured and in use as truck convoy ecorts by the Germans. Built to look good on May Day parades in Moscow, useless in battle.

Most powerful anti-tank weapon.... 88mm. L98 FlaK 18. Six of these guns were responsible for the destruction of the entire US attack down the Kasserine pass in 1943. It can fire a AA shell 6 miles straight up.

First guided AT missile..... The wire guided "Red Riding Hood" (Germany 1945) which delivered the standard 150mm. artillery Hl/C "Holladung" hollow charge warhead.

I was a gunnery ballistics researcher at the Bovington Tank Museum back in the 1980's and a tank gunner (Scimitars) when I was in the Army.

The early Sherman tanks used aviation spirit for fuel due to the Wright Wirewind aircraft engine that powered them. Later Shermans, such as the Forefly, used Cadilac Diesel engines.

The 17 Pdr. is more powerfull than the shortened 88mm. L54 on the Tiger I.

From German range tests:

Sherman 75mm. L41 M6 tank gun.

Maximum pentration 70% Nickel based steel alloy armour @ 100 metres.

97mm. with APC
104mm. with APCBC (1944)
125 mm, with APCR (1945)

76.2mm. L58 17 Pdr.

Maximum penetration 70% Nickel based steel alloy armour @ 100 metres.

185mm. with APCBC
253mm. with APDS (late 1944)

75mm. L70 Panther tank gun:

Armour penetration @ 100 metres.

203mm. with PzGr.41 APCBC

88mm. L54 Tiger I tank gun:

Armour penetration @ 100 metres.

165mm. with PzGr.39 (APCBC)

88mm. L71 Tiger II tank gun:

Maximum penetration @ 100 metres.

247mm. with PzGr.39 APCBC
311mm. with PzGr.40 APCR
428mm. with PzGr.44 FSAPDS

Armour front: 76mm. @ 60 Degrees upper, 52mm. nose casting.
Armour sides: 38mm.
Armour rear: 38mm.
Armour deck: 12mm.
Armour floor: 38mm.
Armour turret: 76mm. all round.
Armour mantlet (Sherman) 76mm.
Armour mantlet (Forefly) 81mm.
