Any ETA on when a DX9 friendly version of the patch will be ready?

My FPS is horrible now. I set graphics to medium and turned off grass and set low on buildings and trees, which was not needed before, i used to play with most setting high. It was somewhat ok offline. When i tried online my FPS during take off and fight was simply unplayable. Then when i got hit and tried to bail out i got CTD (after having played for 10 mins maybe). Well back to ROF again. This looks like we are moving nowhere.

Well emptied all my cache prior to installing the patch, installed patch and kept my settings the same as before the patch my FPS dropped by at least 25FPS, increased my settings and my FPS nearly went into single figures!

Windows 7 64bit
5770 ATI 1 GigRam GDDR5
8mg Free Ram
ASUS Motherboard

Definately no cloud shadow though.
Maybe you have Vsync enabled and triple buffering turned off? If so, i think that with a 60Hz monitor you are limited to 60FPS or non-decimal increments thereof (60, 30, 15), ie: if you are in a situation where your PC can only push 45 FPS instead of 60, with these settings you will get 30FPS.

If you want to really see what the system can do you can simply disable Vsync for a while. However, the fact that you get solid FPS with Vsync on is also very encouraging, because it's usually the fluctuations in FPS that cause stutters. For me, as long as it stays at 30 or more and it's steady, i'm perfectly happy.

EDIT: I just saw your question was answered and it was Vsync related

After : 24/44/1 (not fluid at all)

But maybe the Death Track isn't good because it has clouds and grass ... ???
I never used this track for testing. Just like in the previous IL2 series, tracks made on older versions of the sim tend to have erratic behaviour when viewed on a newer version.

What i do is fly a couple of quick missions and compare the average FPS between different versions. It's not 100% accurate this way because it depends on how i fly (low, high, near terrain or not, etc), but i still think it's better than using a track made on a previous version.

Plus, if you do the same things each time, it doesn't skew the results much.

What i usually do is select the ground attack quick mission where blue attacks manston. I put myself in a flight of four 110s with bombs, set the enemy flight that starts on the ground to defiants and set every other flight to zero aircraft. Then i go and bomb the trucks/train at the edge of the airfield and strafe the defiants as they are taxing for take-off.

This let me see all that i need to know in terms of FPS in a practical scenario:
- Does it stutter when i get close to ground/zoom into the gunsight?
- Does it stutter when buildings and trees load or explosions happen?
- Is the FPS stable when transitioning between flight over water to flight over land and different altitudes?
etc etc.

It's a low level mission so it has some graphics load, the attack profile i need to fly is very specific (i just pop-up a couple of miles outside manston and then dive bomb at 40 degree angle or so with a delay fuse on the bombs) and the opposition is on the ground, so it's easy to repeat a very similar flight each time and test for FPS differences between patches because i don't have to evade enemy AI. I just fly the same attack each time and note the differences in FPS.

You could even record a track for each of the two sorties if you wanted and then it would be easier to compare, because you would be able to watch each track on the version it was made on and be able to both have reliable track playback and also be free to monitor your FPS instead of also flying at the same time.

Have you tried to clear you cache folder?
Also, what version was the server running? It never works well for any game when you join a server that runs a different version than your local installation.

I tried the patch. It installed (copy) itself without any trouble and the game started without any problem, no cache cleaning needed.
In my case I did not see a big improvement in fps, especially above London the minimum fps is still very low, seven (7), the max is higher 70 before it was 50 so the medium is a little higher also 30. The clouds have a big impact.
Over London the stutter seems 20% better and there is less stutter near the ground.
Radio communications are simplified and the other pilots do obey to them. But the ground control does not but this I should test again.

All in all for the moment I love it, thanks to the team of creators.

The patch does what it says, does not give more fps, the cabins are more blurred, so you lose quality, and the terrain textures also lose quality, are not at full quality

I have the same fps as before, 25, and I have this computer:

I5 2500K 3400mhz
Asus p8z68 v gen3
8 GB ram ddr3 1600mhz kingston hyperx xmp
antec 1000w
gtx 550 ti 970 mhz

thank goodness I did a backup before installing it, that's not the way, and if you follow so the expansion of Russia will have few buyers.

a game with my team have to give 60fps minimum, below 60 is a very big decision, we are in 2012 and can not be required unless, remind me to pay € 69.90 for a game that does not work as it should
