Bug in Mage's challange

I am having an issue with the Mage's challange, I go in with a large stack of beasties only to have my forces cut in half. I thought intiantally this was too balance my forces with the encounter, but after completing the challange my forces were still halved.

working as intended. Try reading the dialog when the guy offers you the challenge.

I must have missed that, from my memory it said "It would very hard to complete this mission if you were not a mage". Thanks for the rude reply

If u are not a mage u mast have a Int. greater then 15!
