No other sim is close in this regard. I'd love deeper, more realistic sounds, but I don't want to loose the dynamic system we have now. Using canned samples I think we would loose the responsiveness of the sound engine.

So which is better for flying? Authentic samples or a dynamic system I can hear my engine straining without looking at my gauges?
That's my take on things too. I would definitely like improved sounds but not at the cost of losing their dynamic nature, it's a great deal of help if you fly with CEM and temp effects enabled. I can tune my engine by ear and look at the target, instead of burying my head in the cockpit gauges in the middle of the dogfight.

That goes doubly so for the Luftwaffe aircraft with their manual pitch props, i wouldn't use a canned/looping sample over dynamic sounds even if they sounded better.

Everything comes in time. I am sure there are going to be a handful of sound mods for the game. I think people are trying to add suggestions and help the devs. Not everyone is a technical sound expert for gaming. So we should not berate them for posting a suggestion to make the game better. I did read somewhere that the devs stated they are aware the sounds are not finished. It can not hurt to be productive and give examples of the sounds people would like to hear. After all it can give the devs additional ideas to improving the sounds in the game since many are only placeholders. Lets all support the game and the devs here!!!!

Have devs stated that the sounds are final?
At least I thought the outside sounds were placeholders, or didn't Oleg say we would get movie quality some time ago?

Don't forget, you're hearing the engines from inside a tin can, while wearing ear muffs. It wouldn't be terribly realistic for it to sound like a fly-by. Low=pass filter those tracks and see what they sound like, and you should have a reasonable approximation of what the planes will sound like with hearing protection. Or you can listen to the tracks while wearing shooting earplugs. Similar thing.
