Yeah, I found the same thing with the shadows which is a shame because they help with situational awareness a lot. I posted this analysis of a track in the patch feedback thread but probably relevant here too, just need to repeat with this mod in place:

I just played around a bit with the nossao, lowtex and nomipmaps options and noticed I get the highest fps with only -mod=nossao enabled and the other 2 not running.

Anyone else tried this and find the same thing happening?

Not with my PC.
Same results than before, it is not so much the fps that are my problem but the micro stetter.

Default Micro stutters

Hello,

The only improvement to reduce this micro a stutter is for me to downgrade the "building detail" from very high to high or medium. Then at very low flight altitude the stutter disappear and fps are always the same.

Sorry, doesn't fix it for me ;-( I've tried all mods: Nossao, nomipmaps and lowtex, but they do not fix the stutters.

I just run the 'cross country' mission. If that simple mission (1 bomber flying over land) runs without stutters, I consider it fixed.

Rgs,
FP

edit: Ok, go it to 'work'. First tests did not load these mods properly I guess. Loading them by using the steam client options did not work for some reason. Now created a shortcut and they load. mipmap mod however leads to many strange loading results. First quick mission loads, then others will as well. If I choose cross country as the first mission, then the game won't load. Shimmering is a bit too much for me, but nice to see the stutters have been 'fixed'. The problem is now known and 1C/Maddox should know what to do...

Wink I stand corrected.

The fps are a little higher but the micro stutter is the same or nearly so (there are no instruments to measure this objectively). Sorry; the only way to reduce them is to set the "building detail" to high or medium.

Kudos to the guy!

Had some interesting testing with this mod. I bet a lot of people are smiling.

FPS wasn't an issue for me in most cases, but it has certainly increased FPS without a doubt.

Ran it with both, then just nossao, then just lowtex.

I found lowtex made the landscape look 'ugly' and didn't improve performace, so I removed it. Although the 'ugly' is hardly noticable at higher alititude; making it moot for most I'm sure.

The nossao certainly had an impact, reducing stutter's, although not eliminating them, and increasing FPS! No discernable difference in visuals.

Settings: 1920x1200, all max except - no AA, very low building detail/amount; tree high.

I7 (gulftown), 12Gb RAM, HD5970

Here's a screenie on how the ground looked with mod and without.
