S!

I hope those settings help or give an idea where to look at Just not fiddling so much now as the patch is around the corner so we will see how that changes the situation

Flanker could you answer another question for me, looking in GPU-Z when flying COD what is your GPU load?

Thanks

S!

I think I posted it earlier in the thread, something around 40% or so average. So not very much.

Jugdriver, what is your cpu load? Flanker does have a much better cpu.

Thanks Flanker, 40% is inline with that I thought you would say. Mine is running at 25%-30% and thus my benchmarks in The Black Death are lower than yours. Well let’s hope the game optimization, and better drivers are able to make the cards work to their full potential. I at least know what a big part of the problem is; Shadows are obviously a huge hit to my CPU (even though only one core is really being taxed). I am seriously hoping that the Devs can offload the hit that shadows produce on my CPU onto my GPU which is not really working very hard.

The ironic part is that I bought an AMD CPU and AMD/ATI cards because of how AMD were touting them working together for a better gaming experience and your Intel i5 2500K is handily doing a better a better job of working with the 7970 card, DAMN MARKETING!

@ Editor, I have one core working at 80% to 95% but the other four (I run the game on five of the six cores) are cruising along at 25%, there is no doubt COD is doing a terrible (if any) job of utilizing my other cores. I was looking at benchmarks last night and most show the i5 2500K about 12% faster than my 1090T, but I also have a slight overclock to 3.4ghz (all cores) and my memory is going at 1700mhz so I would say the difference in something like 3Dmark between our two processors would be under 10%. Where the i5 2500K does crush my 1090T is in memory read/write speed, it is almost double, and even though I am not a computer engineer this obviously has something to do with its significant performance advantage, especially with regards to shadows. I guess only time will tell if COD’s optimization and improved Catalyst will allow for more of my CPU and GPU to be utilized.

S!

Jugdriver, I went from AMD 1090T to Intel 200K not so long ago and can say that the 2500K is a real bang for the buck. Not that the AMD CPU's are bad, but Intel without doubt holds the crown at the moment. I have used both brands over the years so I have no tint in my glasses when looking at them

If you checked my conf.ini there I did lower the shadow setting from 5 to 4 without any discernable difference in IQ but a slight bump in performance. I hope also that the new patch will help us all and soon enough the beta should come..or so we all hope

I could try OC my CPU but again not sure if the PSU is enough as OC sure makes Wattage go skyrocketing Maybe a few MHz would not hurt, just to see if it has any effect. But again the patch is close so maybe after it has been released I will get into OC..if needed at all.

Driver wise I went to 12.2 Pre-Certified ones and they are smooth ones. 8.6 ones sometimes dropped the PCIe to 1x from 16X! Not good on FPS I can tell you Even then there was very little stutter but sure some 30-40FPS is not playable in my eyes

Hi.

Flanker, your PSU is enough! You can easily overclock your 2500K to 4.5 Ghz, almost not touching the voltage adjustment. I am very ecsited to see, how much improvment you can get if you overclock you CPU on Clod. I still wait the Asus 7970DCII version of the card! Here is a link to X-Bit Labs article about power consumption and overcloking CPU. A mid-range overcloking doesnt increase the power draw much.

Karhu,

Were you able to go from 3.4 to 4.85 on stock volts?

Hi Jugdriver,

I am running my 2600K at 1.320V on bios at 4.8 GHz on all cores now, HT off. When I stress the cores on Prime95, the voltages are 1.328-1.336 and temps are 68,74,77,73(Noctua D-14). When playing, the stress level to cores and temps are not so high at all! Default voltage is around 1.240. And when stressing the power draw is from 95W to 120W for CPU. The hole system power draw is about 300W whitout overcloking the GPU. You can overclock your memory too. When playing games, the sweet spot is 1866MHZ and over. So if you have 1333 or 1600 MHz memory, it is a good idea to overclock them too.
