I am concerned about the rudder control as I was planning on picking up an AV8R this afternoon. Am I right in assuming that rudder control on the av8r is performed by twisting the stick? You would think that motion would have a variable effect. I am a noob but I played for the first time last night and although I loved the game immensely, I could not stop from accidentally screwing with the throttle. I am a huge fan of COD so maybe my hands are having a hard time with the controls. Should I get the AV8R? Please help.

Yes, you twist the stick for rudder. I haven´t tried the hotas, but i guess it´s a better stick where the rudder is attached to the throttle. I bought the av8r because i couldn´t find the hotas. I´m happy enough with the av8or though.

Thanks for the reply. I'll pick up an AV8R today. One more question if you dont mind; Do you have to configure the buttons or does it work out of the box?

It works good out of the box. But I did a rudder comparison just now between the controller and the stick and stand by my previous observation that the rudder on the av8or is not smooth at all. The controller has a much smoother rudder control. Perhaps you should try to test both the trustmaster and the aviator? Or perhaps its just me or my stick, i dont know?

For me personally the zip-tie mod made a huge difference in my ability to aim. As for the twist rudder feature on the AV8R; it can be a bit twitchy dependent on your sensitivity settings, but it's not impossible to play with. The seperate throttle control on the AV8R alone trumps many of the minor faults people typically find with the stick.

in my experience I find the twist rudder really intuitive and good for a snap adjustment on aiming( i've also found a "rudder straff" across a bombers wing line is quite effective)...anything fiddly involving hanging around and you are going to be a sitting duck. Get yourself lined up on approach/Get your shot in and go...dawddle and you're down!
