+2 def from Steel Belt
+2 def from 2 Altars of Combat

Which adds up to exactly 15. No 20% bonus to defense anywhere, otherwise the final defense score would be 18. I don't think poor translation is an issue in this case.
Are you SURE that it isn't being applied to your troops directly? I'm pretty sure that is how it is supposed to work...

Absolutely positive. I could post some screenshots for proof, but if I look at my troops directly each of them has +15 def. This is true whether they are in combat or on the world map.

I think we're onto something here, Stepsongrapes. If I strip myself down nekkid, I have a defense of 2. If I divorce the wife at that point, my defense goes to 1. To me, this implies that a) the bonus is applied to base defense, not total defense and b) that the bonus is rounded up.

And for the record, I was misremembering the number of altars.

So Maltz, sounds like your intuition was aboslutely right.

And here I was thinking that percentage-based bonuses would scale better over the long game. I totally didn't expect this sort of behavior. Can anyone confirm that other stat bonuses (mana, int, atk) behave the same way? I know folks on the forum aren't too keen on children in the first place, but if this is working as designed? Add me to that list.

okay so I did some experimenting with telescopic sight which adds 100% attack to archers...I have elves and hunters and tested there. It doesn't do anything for the total value you...it actually only works on the troops themselves...so for example id a hunter has an attack of 40(27) which means his value his 40 in your army but on his own his attack is 27, then that 27 is actually doubled to make 67. I haven't tested with defense of children yet but I suspect the same thing is happening there. So, you may only get an extra +1 attack with +20% attack child in your main stats page but I think your characters might also get an extra 20% to their own attack...when in combat...so check their personal attack values as well as the main page. Iggy, were your creatures big leadership creatures or low ranking creatures?

ok, this is HUGE... I thought that Neoka couldn't have "bad" babies until I saw this thread... now, she still has pretty good chances of giving a useful baby, but she can also get 20% bad ones... Or potentially a lot more than 20%.
It depends on how the 30% bonus to mana, 20% bonus to mana, and 20% bonus to rage are calculated. I am sure that items don't count, but I assume alter improvements do count... so basically, your values when stripped naked.

Still, while not BAD they aren't that good either (with some exceptions).

Careful examination shows that the absolute best babies you can hope for merely equal strong items... ex, +5 int is really nice... but last game I had three staves of +5 int... so Xeona is the ultimate wife due to her 2 weapon slots... either give her two +5 in staves, or two +5 attack weapons.
