Zero troops can be achieved easily, for example going to a tough fight with only 1 troop (to avoid losses) and summon lots of book of deaths. The troop will die and you will win if you defeat all enemies. Now you have nothing in your troops slots and if you go to a battle you instantly lose.

You get your starting army - the same when you start the game... + some money (depends on your level na difficulty you are playing). You won't have 0 army...
