i think your wish might already have been granted for BoB

from what oleg has said in the past, in BoB you will be able to switch to other aircraft (for ex one flown by AI) while game play continues, and also be able to switch crew position (pilot, copilot, bombardier, gunner, etc..), and be able to take another crew position if you get killed.

i interpreted that as meaning that when you get killed as pilot of an aircraft in a coop, you could then take over the piloting of another aircraft that is piloted by friendly AI, or even become a crew member on an aircraft piloted by a friendly human.

i also see that as an essential new feature. coops can be long, and last several hrs even. if you get killed in the first 5 min, it can be a very boring afternoon waiting for them to progress to the next mission so you can rejoin.

another new feature oleg also confirmed, is refueling and re-arming, so coop missions could now last many hrs, have a higher fun factor, and be historically more correct.
