First, for a single player game, there WILL be trainers/codes around and it is nothing game design can do about it.

Second, as I said in other threads, this game has too MUCH influence from random factors. Not only wives, but also spells, troops, equipments, etc. If the random factor is so important that it can alternate the gaming process, I would rather call it a flawed design.

Also it ruined part of the fun of playing a strategy game because people can hardly experience the full potential of the game. What if I want to go all undead troop? Sorry you can't because you can only get zombies until Elf's land. Or what if I want make a fighter sorceror? Sorry again because you can't get +int items and your wives only give you +scroll kids...

Look at those good strategy games, they give players the choice, but the choice is hard to make.

At last, this is by no means bashing the game. In modern days PC games, gems like KB is hard to find. since I play this game intensively, I have more thought about it. Please forgive my little rant.

Peace.

Thanks, but I'm not sure I understand it. When I married Mirabella in my last game, she gave a 100% attack bonus to pirates and robbers (I think it was), which turned out to be useless to me since I never recruited those units much. But there's no such bonus in your chart?

That's fine, I have no problem if you want to cheat. I just don't think the designers have any obligation to make it easy for you. And personally I prefer it to be less easy.

Metathron - My chart doesn't list the actual wife bonuses. Only their possible children and chances of each. I guess I should have included the wife bonuses as well. In case anyone doesn't know...

Rina (living) +1 speed, +1 initiative to all robbers/pirates
Rina (undead) +1 speed, +1 initiative to all undead
-slots are armor, boots, belt, artifact

Feanora (frog) +100% to attack of snakes/spiders
Feanora (human) +3 intelligence
-slots are helmet, belt/artifact, artifact, artifact

Mirabella +100% to the attack of all pirates/robbers
-slots are weapon, boots, belt, regalia

Herda +1 morale of dwarves
-slots are shield/regalia, boots, armor, regalia

Neoka +1 morale of elves
-slots are regalia, regalia, belt/regalia, artifact

Xeona +1 morale of demons
-slots are weapon, boots, weapon, belt/artifact

First of all wives aren't random, that's pretty much the only active choice you have (apart from your starting class).

Also this "randomisation" is set in stone at the beginning of the game because of one thing, and one thing only: save-load. It would be way way way way too convenient if every single randomised option could be exploited by saving just before and loading ad nauseum until you get the desired result. THAT is not randomisation.
