That's what you are meant to do. You should be able to find enough on the first 4 islands so you can upgrade your spells in time before engaging the spider, just don't spend any until you once had 100 of them.

I cannot find the mod folder either under the save directory or the game directory. Can anybody help?

I thought at first it was the total amount of crystals you have on you at one time, but it isn't.

Crystals earnt through chests, destroying items, or quest rewards don't count. It only counts when you pick up a crystal from the map, and it only rewards you one crystal per icon.

So if you pick up a crystal on the map worth 4, it will still only tally 1 crystal in your medal tally.

I'm currently playing Soothsayer and this what I have observed.

Not correct. All it counts (or should count as there obviously are still some bugs not fixed) is the number of crystals you have right now OR the hightes number of crystals you had during the game - what ever number is higher.
So once again - all you have to do is pick up a total amount of 100 crystals before spending them on anything. On my Impossible Soothsayer playthrough I only learned Heal and Dispell and then gatheres crystals until I had a total of 100. You really need to do that one early or you'll probably won't do it at all.

In game's directory go to \sessions\addon\<- Here you create a folder named mods

Well before I passed through the Dark Portal it was behaving the way I described. I have NEVER had a total of 27 crystals in my inventory at one time, but that's what my medal says.

I've only just passed through, and now it's behaving the way you describe. Very strange.
