It really would be a nice "good bye" present if they released the source code to Daidalos or a similar community team with some disclaimers that they can not use it for commercial products without paying royalties or similar...
It would be great, but why would 1C risk giving another developing team something that could potentially take customers away from their future product? How bad would it be for Il-2:BoS if they gave the CloD code to TD and they fixed everything and made CloD everything you were hoping it could be, and at no extra cost? Who would play Il-2:BoS then? Who would buy their planes?

Give the source code to the community ! ..

On the understanding that when we fix everything up, and add more planes, you can take it back .. and try to sell it again.

Sounds like a good deal to me.

doesnt sound like RoF bought anything, its more like the RoF group is subcontracted by 1c management to create a il2 sturmovik series "sequel" by name only, but it will basically be a RoF ww2 sim.

for this they can use the sturmovik name and get the modelers who created the recent BoM objects, and receive the objects they already modeled

why not sell it as an addon module for CoD ?

most CoD fans would be willing to pay 30$ for a module like that

same with an addon module for CoD that gives us control over ground vehicles as seen here (made in feb 2012 !)

Controllable Tanks Gameplay
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...v=sHc04iRFFwA#!

i'd pay 30$ for that as an addon

Do I like ROF business model? no.
What is wrong with a free download that gives you 2 competitive free planes to play? What is wrong with buying just the things you want? In most cases that is considerably cheaper then to shell out $40+ for follow up expansions.

Its great the old "official" Il-2 eventually added so many planes but they not all were "free" - most came with expansions. On top of that a good number of those planes I would never even sit in the cockpit let alone fly them.

Being able to buy only those things you want is a good thing...

Nope. The two teams were merged, though the two companies remain separate. Nothing was subcontracted.

You can quit the disinformation campaign any time, BTW.

I think you should quit the disinformation campaign. The only part of Maddox left is the modelers. And they are only there to port models from the cliffs engine to ROFs. There are no programmers from Maddox. This whole venture is nothing more than a re-skinning of the ROF engine with WWII planes.

One of the potential problems is for online players, especially where scenario play is involved. If many aircraft are added at extra cost some guys may not want or be able to afford them. Of course it will depend on how much they cost.

The problem then is they may be prevented from play on some servers where a/c they don't have are essential to the mission. I bought many aircraft for RoF and still found myself falling behind.

They say the model will be different from but similar to RoF. I hope this means that they will package-release contemporary aircraft so that a particular era, like 1940, 1941 etc (or BoB, N Africa etc) along with their maps can take us forward in a sensible way.
