[QUOTE=III/JG53_Don;468556...Did I miss something?...[/QUOTE]

There used to be a lighting effect on the planes that made them look more real and connected to their environment. If you look at the front half of the wings and the lower sides of the fuselage of the plane in the picture below, you can see the reflections there that show the effect. Those parts of the plane are in shadow but are still lit up a little bit by ambient light in the planes surroundings. It's no longer in the game and as a result the planes look more flat and artificial. It's probably regarded as trivial and low priority (like navigation and landing lights) but those sort of details can really add up and make the game a lot more immersive and realistic, for some people anyway.

You can see the effect in action (and in original colour) in this video at 00:15 and 00:38. (It's easier to see when watching in expanded view on Youtube. Just noticed too there are lots of cloud reflections in the water as well in that video )

ah I see, thanks Les! Its not totally eye-catching on first sight, so I must have missed it in the early days or just forgot about it
But you're right, it adds a lot to the atmosphere allthough it is more like a unconcious perception

Regarding the long vertical pictures, have you tried imgur.com?

I haven't tried them, but going by their FAQ info their file size limit is lower than Imageshack's, they also have a lower view-it-or-lose-it threshold too. Thanks anyway for the suggestion. If I do more of those kinds of images I'll try lowering the image quality to reduce the file size, as I didn't even think to do that before.

.
With the new patch RC2 and a Spitfire MKIa 100oct I have tried and did get to 28100 feet of altitude without any difficulties, without exploding my engine by fiddling with the rudder trim and the pitch, mixture, radiator opening, here is a picture to attest it (add 1000 mb );

It took me 43 minutes from take of at Upavon to landing at Manston.

That's no propper DM. I saw a few guys, last year, at Red Bull racing here in town blow those pylons like they were feathers. Relly cool.
