Snapper, I'd have to agree with your mind! and the fact that the little plane that 99% of pilots dislike is actually VERY underrated.

But I love the magic of flight, and anything that can get me there, I have a soft spot for, G.50 included.

I did trash a few in your server tonight, took off the wing of Chasing Fears Ju-87 after not checking the runway before takeoff, it killed me and the G.50 and pee'd him off .
Then I tried to escort the three Ju87's across the channel, but blew up the engine trying to get above them, then I got hit by flak and ditched next to Hawkinge.

You might enjoy this The Chianti Raiders (nothing to do with Hannibal Lector, I hasten to add). The Italians might have been outclassed but they did it in style - the camouflage and artwork on their aircraft was, IMHO, some of the most spectacular and artistic of all of the combatants of WW2.

I know exactly what you mean old boy!
The amount of times I've been flying a He-111 to the I12 Radar Station, and been overcome with the guilt that I'm bombing my own country, probably why I've never actually hit it

Yes Coventry took quite a blitzing from the Luftwaffe in 1940, there is a bomb hole in a field 15 mins walk from where i live, its absolutely huge. The old Cathedral doesn't even need mentioning.

Thanks for the heads up!, That's another book for the collection.
Typical Italians really, its like a real pizza, most basic ingredients on the planet, but the taste is out of this world.

Re Chianti Raiders: Thanks for the suggestion, it's in my Amazon.ca shopping cart $23.07.

Like many here, I had a vague awareness that there was some Italian involvement in the Battle of Britain, but had read very little of it in the numerous BoB-related tomes we all seem to accumulate. I had just figured it was a token gesture of solidarity by Mussolini and was represented by a smattering of outdated aircraft piloted by some very brave men.

My interest is piqued, looking forward to learning more on this.

The prob with the story of Italian fighter during BoB is more related to the casual racism that was common at the time against Italians.

Their pilots were simply not taken seriously, so their success were neglected and their failure over amplified.

Some of the major RAF aces fall in front of Cr42 guns but were hard to admit this in the news. Many claimed that Germans were flying biplans not to admit that they were shot down by Italians.

It's a funny story with the time but man have to remind that racism was fairly commune at those time. Just keep in mind the tale of the red tails

"Racism" can be used to describe discrimination on cultural and/or ethnic grounds. So.. its use in this case is appropriate. It doesn't require that the subject is a distinct "race"....

As an aside: "race" probably does not exist as an entity aside from culture and ethnicity anwyays. The notion that "races" exist might in fact, be , a "racist" attitude...
The first few paragraphs of the wikipedia page on "racsim" make for some interesting reading.
