The fascist spanish government under Franco dictatorship, which was officially neutral during the war, sent a division of voluntary men to support Hitler in the russian front. It was called the blue division ( Blaue Division ). About 46.000 spanish men went to fight in the russian front. In the russian side there were also spanish men who had scaped from Spain after the spanish civil war.
