OK, there should be a log.lst in the il-2 folder. Can you post that one, please? It might help.

Nope, no log is being generated. I tell you, it's weird, I don't have any issue with any other game on my system.

In that case I don't think I can help, I'm not a dxdiag expert. But I'd suspect a broken download somewhere. The conf.ini file might prove useful, but that I'd also have to leave to others.

Doesn't logging have to be on in the conf.ini?

In the conf file in the game directory, under the [GAME] section, you should find these lines DayGlow...

eventlog=eventlog.lst
eventlogkeep=1

There may be multiple entries too, so check carefully.
