It happened to me with the beta patch yesterday!
A 109 would climb and disappear completely. It would suddenly appear in front of my eyes again as it closed on me.
I changed my resolution from 1600x900 to 1360x768 and it stopped happening.
Also seems to be affected by AA. The dot or small blue/grey 109 gets blended into the blue sky by the AA.
I turned off ingame AA and use FXAA.
It may have been coincidence that it stopped happening to me when I did these things though...
