Hi Don,

The SSAO toggle on/off option has been added in one of the patches last year, further to the suggestions of a user, in order to increase the fps by disabling it on the non high end machines. SSAO visual improvements on the planes are indeed quite subtle and noticeable only from close distance. If you search this forum you will find many topics from last year, with examples of SSAO on and off.
If you have low fps, try and disable it.

As far as HDR, I think that this option didn't make it to the release.
