Try it with say 6 of you, 6 enemy. Also try the missions that aren't the dogfight ones. I get the same problem in low number dogfights, ending up with a formation flying home with me chasing, but not in some missions.

In dogfight mission when Im trying to fight defiants they always just buzz off.. annoying

Can you up the AI (AU lol) level to 'veteran' or above and see if that makes any difference?

Join a squadron Devastat. That's the fastest way to learn, and the most enjoyable too.

Plenty of hun squads out there to choose from, we run one ourselves (JG26).
