I guess the real issue the engine has is that it doesn't contrast the shadow enough. The sunny side is perfectly good I believe (the bark) but yeah, the shadowy side should be a tad darker. The picture above is way too contrasted though. The whites drop off sharp because of very strong over saturation. It's a bad picture that elimitates about 15-25% of the real spectrum.

Are these pics digitally enhanced afterwards? I'm questioning because they look so good and the edges are very very smooth - no aliasing at all. Or is the reason your gfx card?
