What the hell in 2011 Hollywood still has against Physics. It look like Catholic church in the Middle Age saying no to Copernic.
Can't they simply hire a competent man to look after other job ! Or is all that money so short ? You can put dozen of CGI specialist behind a project but if none of them has ever studied mechanics of motion what do you expect ? Even 1940's Fantasia Broomsticks FM are better worked ! Stars Wars battle scenes (the Death Star bit) were almost copied on The Battle of Britain movie...somebody made a video showing it...somewhere on this forum IIRC !

With respect to the new Red tail movie it looks not so bad in terms of defying physics. In the short scenes it does not look too bad.
Of course real planes would be great but we'll never see a movie again made with loads of real planes of the era.
