To resize the hole map drag in the corners.
To zoom in and out then use the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Yeah, the problem is that the 'edges' of the border don't quite correspond to the window dimensions. Try hovering your mouse over the bottom of the border in different places until you see the resize tool.
