Welcome aboard. I'm very glad you're familiar with terms like "testing the waters" and "using the forum search function", because i can't resist and i end up flying less and less by answering the same questions by different people all the time.

At least you seem like the sort of fellow that will save me some time to actually fly

Well, after the usual farting about assigning axes and key commands to get me flying, (and having to save my changes to an actual file in windows explorer was a bit of a throwback to be honest), i managed to fly the 1st training mission.

The "fly through the hoops" intro mission is a bit of a letdown as it is obviously based on the FSX glider "missions", (and starfox on the snes before that). It was pretty vague, ("turn 060!" how do i do that with a 1930's compass?), but the flight model was pretty smooth, although it seemed a little forgiving to my ham fisted thrashings.

The GFX were smooth and crisp, although the AA was a little jagged, (will try forcing through NVIDIA CP), and the draw distance seemed a litle short (FPS vs. draw distance is always a sticky topic. Personally i would like a slider. It's my PC so i would like to determine whats best for me, thanks).

I fired up the 2md mision after that and was immediatly struck by the WTF factor. A full manual start-up is needed? I had better start swotting the manual.

There is a proper manual right?

Coolts

ps. Menus seem a little basic as does the general GUI, but so was IL-2 IMO. Functional would be the operative word.

Looking forward to aerobatics and shooty 'splodes

pps. <moggy> I work with a guy who worked on 'chorlton' and made 'trapdoor' for that matter, (ask him how you get plasticine to make ripples and bubbles and your brain will melt). Top bloke he is. Proper down to earth. Predecessor to 'purple and brown' (http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=...C2&FORM=VIRE1#)

ppps. honestly, if you ever met rich and percy (purple and brown) and heard them laugh, you would crease up. Its exctly them!!!
