Its not even sure, that this would pretend us from any problems, thus we won't try it anyway.

I suggested this in the other thread about it... but couldn't a F4U-1 default skin for USMC/USN be added to the Corsair I without incurring any wrath. It'd be like updating any other skins to the game.

One option is that you can keep calling it the Corsair Mk I, but assign it in the game for USA rather than GB. Since the USN/USMC F4U-1 and the Fleet Air Arm Corsair Mk I were identical aircraft unlike later variants of the plane and the fact that the Corsair Mk I was never used in combat like the F4U-1 was this would make sense.

We can't change the name nor can we change the default affiliation. That would be seen as "new version" and would result in NG holding its greedy corporate hand open again.

Well, actually, you can buy good old IL-2 through Steam as well. But, this game was around years before Steam itself, so it is not designed to fully support Steam. There is no autoupdates feature for it through this service.

IL-2 Sturmovik was first released in November 2001. Coming up on 10 years ago...there was no Steam or fancy patch process available then. The game engine has evolved quite a bit and there's been a ton of content since 2001 but some of the core fundamentals remain firmly routed in 2001 technology.

So yes you have to patch manually. This was par for the course years ago... Now we sort of expect automatic updating and all that wonderful stuff that a service like Steam, or XBox Live, or PSN, etc. give us.
