My copy 1946 requires a DVD to start. AFAIK its only no cd when you got a steam install or mods, which as you know is not supported.

Considering that you need a Steam account to play if it also requires a disc in the drive for boxed copies then something is very amiss.

We received many questions about the Digital Rights Management solution used in IL2 : COD. we understand it is an important subject for many of you, and we are a glad to tell you that IL2 Sturmovik: Cliff of Dover will use the SolidShield DRM solution. SolidShield features a flexible activation process and allows for up to 3 simultaneous game installs.

Please note that the game will also use the Steam platform for services such as matchmaking, anti-cheat etc… So you will need a Steam account to play the game.
Though I do have to laugh at 'Avatar'.

Seems like a fine drm, and steam is excellent anyway, but wait for the awesome oldfarts to whine:

"Daem no!, Now I can't activate 8 times on all my 10 computers at the same day, and they must have a secret agenda.. installing files on my comp `n xxxx like that" - Whiners

Steam is as excellent as your ISP is. Mine is extremely flaky atm, so I wouldn't want an online check each time I start up the sim.

They should do it like DCS:A-10 does, activate the product at first start, then only if major components of the computer are changed.

More like whining 3l33t H4xx0r script kiddies complaining they can't get it from pirate bay because nobody cracked the DRM yet!

nothing to do with old farts as you called us....my young and polite friend...probably with steam you can say goodbye to hyperloby and you know what that means....
