As a mage you're going to fight a lot of invincible or lethal armies but you don't have to during the first couple of islands. Look at all enemies and try to find that is slightly stronger or even equal in strength and clear those up first to get some levels up. After that you'll find those previously invincible or lethal armies have reduced in difficulty.

u can learn the basic things in there(save for rage box exploits)
since AP got a DRAGON PEt instead of the rage box
but the ussual things come in there

and i don't know who said it but saying AP is harder)
i found AP alot easier than TL
