is it possible that this patch somehow made it impossible for some to play ?

Not sure havnt tried hosting by my self, but it seems some experience "server offline" while hosting thus not beeing able to start games

Or did I got something wrong ?

No, it was not the patch, it was a Gamespy issue that players couldn't start a game.
