Or just have the ground portion take place on a much smaller portion of the map. The air battle can rage all over the map, but the ground objectives can be contested in a very small area.
Is it a "sim" at that point? Not really. Good game? Quite possibly. BF '42 did quite well and it was stone-age compared to what we see now. Of course, the flying portion was terribly modeled. Splitter
