It will be really, really devasting to have one of these on the battlefield, but I would like to have these added into a mod, update, or new MoW game.
Yes, they were more common then IS3s and T29s seeing how neither saw enough action to say they were in the war and the T29 never was in WWII at all. As for in mods I think the German Soldiers mods do add them, or was it Commanders of War II....I know a few mods have them.

@Crni Vuk The Japanese flame tank in the base game isnt a tank but more like a tracked sardine can w/ like 8 flamers sticking out all sides. ive not used it but ive seen it and all its devastating torchness. Id love to see some dedicated flame tanks to.

I tried to make the KV8 Flamer tank by switching files and stuff around and the Flame thrower was equipped and all but in the editor flamers dont work so I couldnt tell if it worked or not haha.

Nope I have not tried since the recent patch, I have always used the singleplayer editor, do I have to use the outfront editor? or are both the same?

edit* just tried the Japanese SSD Flamer vehicle in the editor and the Flamethrowers make the Flamer sound but dont do anything and dont make the flame firing graphic

If a SSD could have flame throwers on each side, it should be possible to replace the hull MG of a tank with a flame thrower.

I put the flamethrower in the KV1's CoAxial spot and in the editor it makes the sound of the Flamethrower and the ammo in the fuel can goes down but the gun port just flashes like its firing a bullet and nothing happens. Maybe it works only in game or something or MP

A new model might have to be made.

I do have the 1.17.5 patch and when testing the Japanese flame tank in the editor, everything works OK, all flame throwers do "spit" flame correctly etc.

No new model needs to be done if you want to add a flame thrower to a already existing tank. All you need to do is to play around with the .def and .mdl files and renaming the coaxial machine gun´s Foresight4 to Foresight9 and of course. Then you need to rework both the tank_sp.inc and tank.inc files to get it to work. Just look how the sdd flame tank is made and add the same code to your new flame tank.

That's the same thing that happened to me.

A new model has to be done anyway if you want a KV-8. When I get time this year or the next I'll try it.
