I think you are more likely as not just mistaking which gremlin fight it was. LIke you upgraded a different item than you recall.
All armies on the maps are static at the very least, and nothing 'scales'. If Rune usage could have possibly made a difference, it would only have been the makeup of the army you fought. Since Gremlin towers are based on the size of the defending force, that could have, in hypothesis, changed them. I really don't think it's true though. |

I don't know about "special" fights like gremlin fights but regular armies on maps will never change.

Regular fights (hero and non-hero) never change composition, but gremlin fights do change. I can personally vouch for this as I had 2 flame necklaces that I suppressed in succession; one net me 2,743 XP while another net me 4,318 XP due to generating more enemies (see attached screenshots).

Well, that isn't really the question though, the question is whether or not suppressing the same flame necklace will ever have two different fights. Obviously two different items could have two different battles.
