You'd do better to ask questions on threads that Oleg created.

He doesn't have time for reading forums, so it would be rare for him to read this thread.

Water=3 was always about using a nVidia specific feature that was not officially part of the standard pixel shader specification. Water=2 was added later so that any card could use it. I use Water=2 on my system despite having a nVidia card because it looks just as good as Water=3 (Water=4 has the whitecaps) and runs quite a bit faster.

Storm of War will almost certainly be totally different... DX9, 10 and 11 support. I would guess that going DX will help ATI quite a bit...

nearmiss, you are correct. betterr there than here.
IceFire, I hope you are correct. As much as I look forward to SoW, I'd have a hard time accepting that ATI might be a brides' maid again. Hopefully Oleg has an equitable hand.

S!

I hope there will not be this green team spinning "TWAT" logo in SoW. There is no reason to diss ATI as it does DirectX as well as nV does. If someone screams about tessellation, well, not much of it in a flight sim I think, if you want to keep your fps decent with all the DM, FM, AI, amount of planes and effects

In IL-2 I use water=0. I have no time staring at water, but trying to spot the damned dots in time before they turn into tracer spewing planes

I won't have a problem if DX rendering is equal between the two GPU houses. No problem at all. IN fact that makes it seem a bit easier. Given relative performance I can go for what fits my budget. Presto!! I'm done.
What's with that movie, Alpha? Oh! I get it! water, water everywhere!! good one.

The point being that's water 3 on an 9800GTX+

I've not seen ATI get close to the animation yet.
