Hmm... It's hard to say.
Britain= Halifax (Thought I'd throw in something different.) France= Amiot 143 (France had some strange looking planes, and I love them for it.) America= B-25 (Hard one but I chose it because my Grandfather who flew in the pacific trained in B-25s before the war, and a time after Pearl Harbor. Germany= Ju-88 A-1 (Once again, thought I'd throw in something different.) Italy= SM-84bis (Cool looking little Tri-engined bomber.) USSR= Pe-8 (This was hard one, but only because Russia made some weird looking bombers, that I think are just so strange and cool.) |

It may be obsolete, but that Ohka's dangerous!
OK, my list: The Il2 (duh!) Best anti-tank plane before jets. (heck, it was the main inspiration for the A-10) The A-26 Invader - You gotta love a 355 mph bomber that flew more like a fighter once it dropped its payload. The remote controlled turrets were neat too. Ju-87 Stuka - yeah it's obsolete, but three words make all the difference: Hans-Ulrich Rudel. Yokosuka P1Y Ginga - the Betty's successor, used only a little but still a neat bomber. The TBF/TBM Avenger - largest single engine carrier based plane of the war and a great torpedo bomber to boot. Finally, the SBD Dauntless - I know other people have mentioned it already, but it was the first plane I thought of when I saw the title of the thread. It wasn't as fast as the later SB2C Helldiver, nor did it have the payload, but the SBD was a nimble little thing and pretty tough too. |
