until recently i always saw the canberra flying over my house, it was easy to spot as it has huge wings and they were black and yellow!! was a pretty sight.
Now i just get buzzed by the damn eurofighter typhoon every 20 seconds!! night and day. |

They say there's a shortage of choppers in Afgahistan, there's loads where I live (no less than 3 army bases in close proximity) see chinooks all the time. |

![]() The majority of our Chinooks are currently grounded from combat operations thanks to software. You see it's a rule that the software for primary and secondary systems have to be developed by different companies, as then it is highly unlikely that the same bugs or problems will be present in both systems. So if one fails you can be reasonably sure the back-up will function. But it turns out that the guys that did some of the software for primary and back-up systems both went to the same university and learned the same things from the same teachers, so make the same design mistakes. I don't know what the systems were or how many of them there are. Could be just one system, could be all of them... But whatever - a lot of Chinooks are grounded. P.S: now I have an opportunity to post in here without being off-topic I can finally congratulate you on keeping a thread on topic and civil for soooo many pages. WP ![]() |

Actually the engines on the canberra ARE thinner than the Meteors. The Canberra was the first British plane to use axial flow engines as opposed to the Meteors old centifugal engines.
