I dunno if it's solved. But it is a reasonable explanation, but so are others in the past. There are a lot of mysterious stories of pilots during the 30s and 40s going down, and what happened to them. I think it's best that this one stays a mystery, because not everything needs a answer. Let people speculate all the want. Just don't come up with an answer.

I wouldn't mind knowing what happened. Makes history all the more enjoyable to learn about.

Just find a speculation, that you think's more appropriate. It would be interesting to know. But a little mystery never hurt anyone.... right?

That is kind of what I was thinking lol. I mean one theory is that they captured and then killed her. Or at least a woman that looked like her.

I just don't see how, if this is indeed the location, the plane could just disapear.

They are still finding ww2 aircraft in the oceans. I dont see how hers could just dissolve to nothing.

Unnnnllleeessss.....UFO's maybe. Hey you never know.

Alright alright, I'll tell you what really happened if you like.

It all started, when she was somewhere between Hawaii, and Australia or something like that (Her media mission, was just a rouse). She was flying at about 15,000 feet because she liked doing stupid things like flying at 15,000 ft. Anyway, while flying at 15,000 ft a German U-boat which was just being tested, surfaced and fired one of the worlds first ICBMs, but failed as the little ICBM only reached 1,000ft before running out of steam and falling back into the sea, detonating on the ocean surface.

When that happened, Amelia quickly radioed the President of the United States, and issued a warning which said, "MR. PRESIDENT! We've got a problem!". Well little is it known, that Amelia Earhart, was actually one of Americas spies at the time, and she was known for being a bit hot headed and rash. So after she radioed it in, she quickly jumped into action and nosed the plane down. Flipping some switches, that exposed some small rotors near the tail end of the plane. The wheels secretly lifted up, and her plane became a submarine/plane.

The German U-boat, nicknamed "Hitlers Surprise" spotted Earhart's Submarine/Plane, and quickly went into action as well. The two submarines fired their torpedoes at one another, and in the quick little fight. Amelia Earhart's submarine/plane was completely obliterated while the German U-boat "Hitlers Surprise" tried limping for Kyoto but in the end was forced to self detonate and obliterate themselves so no Japanese or American ships could find remnants of the elite U-boat.

And so, that's what really happened.
